trusting our instincts . . . holding our babies
KozyWare announces new RIBBON Kozy!
Below is the testimony of Paula Cook, a dear friend of ours:
Hey Kristi:

Finding out that I had breast cancer was a huge

wake-up call for me. I never thought that I would

hear a doctor say that I was positive for breast

cancer. The day that I found out I cried so hard; I was sure my life was over.
But the next day I got up with a determination to fight. I wanted to live and be healthy. I completely cut sugar and refined foods out of my diet. I started eating much healthier and really caring about what good nutrition is.
I eat fruits, vegetables, and nuts mostly now. Rarely do I veer off the healthy course I am on. I exercise several times a week. I don't eat much meat. I drink no dairy milk. I take whole food capsules every day without fail.
I have never felt better. I think God gave me this chance to start over with my health. I am so thankful for the people who have touched my life through this disease. It's not the path I would have chosen, but I'm really not sure I would change it, if I could.
Less than a month ago, I had a double mastectomy. In two weeks I start over a year's worth of chemo. But I feel blessed. I am blessed to have lots of love and friendships in my life and I am also blessed to be able to become healthy. I pray that all women would really think about what they are putting into their bodies. It makes a huge difference.

Almost everyone has a friend, family member or co-worker who has been impacted by breast cancer. Or, perhaps it has affected you personally.
At Kozy, even though we are a small company, we want to do our part to help bring awareness to a disease that is almost 100% exclusive to women.
In the United States, an estimated 192,370 women and 1,910 men will be diagnosed with new cases of breast cancer in 2009. Breast cancer ranks second as a cause of cancer death in women (after lung cancer).
There is progress being made. Death rates for breast cancer have steadily decreased in women since 1990, due to both earlier detection and improved treatment. The current five-year survival rate for female breast cancer patients has improved from 63 percent in the early 1960s to 89 percent today.
Larger organizations, like Susan G. Komen, are focusing on a cure, and that is what we all pray for. Meanwhile, however, this disease is very real and is affecting lives around the world.
Our focus is on prevention first . . . doing the right things with your body and health to minimize the probability of getting breast cancer, including regular exams. Also, breast feeding (studies show) can be a cancer preventative. On Kelley's blog, she links to a site that talks about this.
We also want to encourage those of you who either have or know someone with breast cancer. Our message to you is that your life is not over. Through good nutrition and proper medical care, you can maximize the probability of beating this disease.
To the right is the testimony of a personal friend who has experienced firsthand both the challenges and uncertainties that a breast cancer diagnosis brings, as well as her struggles and determination to beat this desease through faith in God, good nutrition, and medical science. Her story will inspire and encourage you.
You may have a story of your own concerning breast cancer that you would like to share with us. We've included a "Guest Book" on this page where you can do just that. Please take the time to share your thoughts and insights.
Blessings,
The Kozy Team
